At the conclusion of our Online 7802/7822 Patchwork and Quilting Course, students who have satisfied all the syllabus requirements are awarded a certificate by the awarding body, City & Guilds of London. We would like to offer our congratulations too!

BJ Reed

The final assessment quilt was inspired by poppy seed heads and is called 'Where have all the poppies gone?'. BJ has combined transfer prints with hand dyed fabrics and silks and satins. Stencilling and dense free machine quilting complete the vibrant design.

Above: The transfer prints that were the starting point for the quilt.

Right and Left: Details of the quilt showing the printing and quilting. The use of shiny fabrics such as the satin accentuate the quilting patterns.

Left: BJ's first Assessment piece was inspired by the colours and form of the coleus plant. With a collaged background and bold use of appliqué we think it is very striking.

Above: Details of the Coleus quilt showing the appliqué and quilting. We love the subtle addition of beads on the binding.

Left: Part of the storyboard that led to the quilt design.

Above left: Work in progress. Above: Detail of the quilt showing the intense stitching and complex appliqué and pieced background.

Above: Clever use of fabric has brought this simple pieced landscape to life.

Below: A pieced maple leaf forms the centre to this crazy patchwork block.

Above: BJ's daring use of colour was already in evidence here with this Sister's Choice block. The beautiful fabrics adding to the impact.

Right: This mini quilt began with a print and was then embellished with quilting.
