DesignMatters Online Courses
Here at DesignMatters we have offered a range of creative art and craft courses for over ten years. We currently offer two subjects, Creative Quiltmaking (City & Guilds accredited) and Creative Sketchbooks. DesignMatters was the first centre to offer City & Guilds creative courses using online delivery and continues to offer the opportunity for students all over the world to study with flexibility and convenience. All course content is devised and written by Linda and Laura Kemshall and is richly illustrated throughout with numerous examples, inspirational images and step by step technique photographs. Creative Sketchbooks also features video demonstrations of many processes.

Course materials are provided via a dedicated section of this website. The beauty of studying online is that the course materials are available all day, every day, ensuring that students can access the information they require at a time and place that suits their individual circumstances.

In addition to the detailed and illustrated instructional materials provided, students also receive one-to-one support from a DesignMatters tutor. Sending work to our tutors is easy - it's all done via email so there's no waiting on postal deliveries or worrying that work might get damaged or lost. All work is submitted for feedback and assessment as digital images attached to emails. Technical assistance for how to do this is provided in a 'Getting Started Guide' which is provided to all students upon enrolment. Essentially, if you can take a digital photograph or scan an image and send an email, then you have all of the technical skills required to send your work for assessment.

In addition to the feedback and advice provided by the tutor throughout our courses, coursework produced for Creative Quiltmaking is also regularly graded. This City & Guilds' requirement enables us to recognise excellence and also identify areas that require additional effort to allow each individual to achieve their full potential in any particular aspect of the course.
An example of the grading sheet can be seen here in the Learner Handbook. On satisfactory completion of Creative Quiltmaking students receive a certificate of award from City & Guilds.

More information about City & Guilds Creative Techniques can be found on the City & Guilds website.
